Kurds in Turkey
Description
In 2003 and 2004 I have been working with Kurdish refugees from South Eastern Turkey living in the outskirts of Istanbul and Diyarbakir. Melodised narratives of exile were performed daily, mainly by women.
In 2004 I started a research on ritual songs from Hakkari, a region located at the extreme South East of Turkey (at the border with Iran and Iraq). Hakkari (in Kurdish Colemêrg) was at this time very isolated. I lived in Hakkari from September 2004 to April 2005.
